1928 Hawaii 1/2 dollar & 1921 Missouri centennial 1/2 dollar

Hello all, I would like your help on grading these two coins. I know scans aren't the best to use for grading so once I get some decent pics I will post them. I am looking to sell these on Ebay or here first in the for sale forun if anyone is interested But I would like to hear what you think they might grade. Thanks in advance Derek

It's difficult to determine the grade on the Hawaiian due to the nature of the scan scan. I really can't tell much.

Missouri is better, and I'd hazard mint state, but I really can't give it a number grade.

 

Thanks green18. Due you think it would be easier to grade with a picture or is this something you need to hold in your hand under a loop to tell.

Need an Hawaiian. Got's a Mizzo but not a 2x4.......

 

I will try today to take some decent pic. Just hopefully you don't low ball the grade to get your self a good deal. LOL I have followed your post for a while and I know you know your stuff when it comes to these types of coins. I value your opinion thanks Derek

Here is my first attempt at pictures. I am going to have a friend take some better close ups for me tonight but i thought I would get these up in the mean time.

I would have them graded by PCGS or NGC as they are desireable coins, before putting them up for sale. Sometimes, it is a higher grade than one thinks, and sometimes, they detect problems which might lower, but you would have a strong basis to evaluate.

That Hawaiian's lookin' sweet. I'll say MS-65 but I wouldn't be surprised if it graded higher. The Mizzo's a '64........

Just a humble collectors opinion.

And like Jim stated above, get 'em graded. That Hawaiian alone is a serious chunk of change in a holder.

 

@desertgem Having them professionaly graded (No offense to green18) is an option but if my intent is to sell them do you think the added exspense of having them graded will be offset by the realized selling price after all I always hear you buy the coin not the grade.

No offense taken Derek. My opinion is, that in a holder, that Hawaiian will fetch a great deal more. The cost of having it graded will pay for itself when you sell.

 

The cost will be worth it if you value a market acceptable decision as to grade. I believe that like Green says, you will realize best value, because you will have the knowledge of a market grade, and if there are no problems noted, a problem-free coin which adds up big. No arguments from people that they want a discount because they see what they think is a problem, and people will wonder why such a coin wasn't slabbed IMO.

Yes, all should buy the coin rather than a holder, but if you have both, it makes a difference. You will also attract those who don't trust their own grading and observations to the bidding. I am sure if Green had it in his hand, he would give you a fair grade and offer

Jim and Ken thanks for your insights and opinions. If I do decide to have these graded I will be sure to let you know how close Ken was to the correct grade. Maybe he was lowballing me all along. LOL Thanks again Derek

 

Do they look polished in hand sure do in the images? BTW the Hawaiians are many times cleaned and at the price nice ones bring I would be very leery of buying one raw.

 

@ lindedad It hand they don't look polished to my untrained eye. I have attached a couple more photos of the Hawaiian, They are better close ups but I am still having trouble with the lighting. In hand these coins don't have this green tint. Thanks Derek
