i was look at a coneca listing of a DDO/DDR and the DDO listing says pop of 3,1. Then the attached DDR listing only says 3.http://varietyvista.com/Variety Master Listings/franklin doubled dies 1948-1956.htm#_1956 can someone explain that to me. what does the extra 1 in the DDO list mean? it is DDO-008 and the attached DDR. thanks.
I will try to answer your question. The 1956 Franklin Half Dollar DDO-008 stage A & B is paired to the DDR-004 and James Wiles has seen three (3) of them. On stage C (Late Mid Die State) of the DDO-008, James Wiles has seen one (1) coin that the reverse die had been changed out and the new die did not have any or sufficient doubling but the obverse is still DDO-008. Hence, the notation in the Population of 3, 1
ok. so he has seen 3 ddo-008s with the ddo/ddr combo, and 1 with out. gotcha. thanks. you explained that perfectly.
Good explanation! You can liken it to census numbers. For example, suppose a coin is graded "MS69, Pop 3/1". This means that there are three graded MS69 with one higher. Chris
