Hi All, Found this Jefferson Nickel today while going through circulated rolls from the local bank. There appears to be doubling on the date, mint mark,in god we trust on the obverse and on the D in united on the reverse.Any thoughts, opinions, comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roadshowreject
Nice coin I believe it is mechanical doubling but I am no expert by far. Here is one I found today on a 2003 nickle
Hi, Thanks for responding.I haven't quite grasped the differences between mechanical doubling and die doubling yet.I get rolls of nickels, quarters and cents from the bank and go through them with a loupe.I've found doubling on the following jefferson nickels: 1985-p "we",1994-d "1"on date,2001-p "in god we trust" ,2003-p"we", and my 2000-p also.Fun to look for and better to find! Thanks, Roadshowreject
That what I have been doing for about 6 months now and I still have troubles sometimes deciding what type of doubling it is. It is alot of fun. I have found some pretty nice double dies and alot of mechanical doubling.
Roadshowreject...I believe the doubling you see is from die fatigue not a doubled die. Larry Nienaber
A nice reference on all types of doubling. You can get real numb-brained after reading A Ken Potter expert article IMO. http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/OtherFormsOfDoubling.htm
