Does anyone know if the Indian 1c pennys had alot of double die errors? I just found a 1865 that is doubled and didnt know if they are common. I am unable to post the pic until I get back after the weekend.
Indian Head cents, had a lot of what has been called "Longacre doubling" due to the way the die was made. The letters often have what appears to be doubling, sometimes in all directions, and it is not. About the 10th down in the URL. http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/OtherFormsOfDoubling.htm
If you found an 1865 "Fancy 5" DDR, you have a very rare coin. Currently, there are less than 100 known. Here is the picture of the one I have. Its a very bold doubled die, so if you have one, it should be easy to identify. It is a bolder doubled die than the infamous 1873 Doubled Liberty IHC, but since this variety is located on the reverse, it does not garnish as much attention as the 1873. If G-4, I have seen these sold in the $350+ range. Would love to see pictures.
