Well I hadn't done one of this type of thread for awhile and I know that normaly Mike does it but the last one that Mike did I was out of town and didn't get to guess so I thought I would do one---

This is a key date---its graded by the OLD ANACS---and it graded right--IMO it couldn't go higher or lower.

I'll give it a few days till I post the grade.

Ahhhhh cents...especially Lincolns and a 14-D no less!

I see some slight hair and coat details on the obverse. The reverse is tough (pic quality), but if that is a few parts of the wheat lines I see...I will go with a

    F15

I think there is more detail in the hair for a F12, but not enough for a VF20...that is if the coin hasn't been cleaned previously.

Oh Speedy, I'd say VF-20 and stick with it.

    Hey Midas
Yep--I thought it was time to upgrade that coin in my cent set---I had a PCGS G4 one and I sold it at a show I went to the other day---the dealer got a good deal and I still made $20 on it!...I had gotten it about 2-3 years ago and I was glad to see it went up alittle---

Hey Bone---are you sureeeee you are going to stick with it?? :D:D :D

There you go Speedy! G4 to F15 (my guess) and pretty soon you will look at the rest of your collection and do the same! BTW, I am on my 5th upgrade for my 1914-D which is now a NGC graded AU55.

BTW...you read correctly, it is graded by NGC. Remember, I am equal opportunity when I BUY coins, not when I submit them.

Nice move...and you made sure you got the real deal too! All key date Lincolns are RED hot and will be right up to 2009!

Yep, if it was in my collection I would grade it VF-20.

I'll go VF-20, but the left wheat ear is telling me that the coin is probably a F-15.

VF20. A little tough to make out the back but the front looks like a 20.

    Here are some more photos...

Hey Midas--I'm glad that you have a NGC coin...it will remind you of me
As for the rest of my collection---I'm trying to complete a few of my other sets before I upgrade too much but the next one would be the 1909-S....my 1931-S is MS64 and is just fine IMHO...and my SVDB is also just fine for me at VF......I have been thinking of putting the later dates in RED but haven't decided yet--I would like to complete my PF66 Franklin set---a AU/BU Washington Quarter set and maybe a Buff Nickel set.

I think your coin was graded a f-12 based on the second picture.

lookes fine, though anacs may have given it a vf since its a key date

I think F12, the cheekbone and jaw bone aren't seperated so it can't be a VF (I suppose I could be talked into F15, but I'm comfortable with F12).

F15. Not VF just because the ear and bowtie need a little more definition. Better than a 12, but not quite a 20...imo.

That coin looks exactly like one I recall seeing around here. ;) I think ANACS thought so too, but because they are the old ANACS they graded it F 15.

A wonderful example of a great semi-key Lincoln and (IMHO) an undervalued coin....Mike

    Have fun...Mike

[edited to add] EVERYBODY is encouraged to post their coins in similar threads -- I don't hold any ownership on the idea -- and I know I learn a lot from other's guess-the-grade posts in addition to getting to see everybody's neat coins. :D

Alrighty guys---this thread seem to have run down---and most of the people that normaly guess have posted guesses so I'll give it a few more hours and post the grade.

Well I will go with F15 but a slightly higher grade would not surprise me given that it's a key date and the surfaces are not porous.

Alrighty guys---I would have waited longer but we are having a storm....and I haven't been feeling too good today---I went out to eat and ate too much :D :D

Anyway---ANACS gave it a F12 grade---I agree---my 1909-S VDB is graded VF20 and is better than this...the wheat and the motto is stronger on it then this 1914-D.
I've been watching this date for awhile and I can say for sure that it is HOT right now--most of the ones I've watch have gone over Gray Sheet ASK....in fact some of them have been going for BID or ASK of the next grade up (like if its graded VG it would sell for F and if its graded F it would sell for VF)....but I think I got a good deal on this one---I paid over BID but under ASK.

Mike---you say it looks like one you saw around here---do you mean the ones that you posted a few weeks ago?...if so then yes I agree....but I think I also graded your coin at F as well :D ;)

    Thanks to everyone that guessed---
