REALLY! i thought these were made by private mints.

 

That Buffalo round was NOT made by the US mint.

 

thats what i thought. i thought only 2001s were us minted.

 

Completely different coin. The US mint coins are much more detailed.

 

Correct, but private companies made 2001 Buffalo rounds as well. (Other years too.) In fact in 2001 and 2002 it was a popular scam to list those 2001 rounds on eBay, not describe them well and sell them at high prices to knowledgeable bidders who thought they were buying the US coin at a bargain price.
