Today I went to a Wells Fargo inside of a Stater Bros. store to dump off a box of dimes. The employees know that I look for old coins so they told me about a guy who works in the meat department who brought in a lot of circa 1905 half dollars and other old silver coins. He wanted to trade them in for face value but they talked him out of it and told him to bring them to a coin store. I told them there were ethics involved in telling him. I wonder if the guy didn't work at that store if they would have told him not to redeem his silver coins for face value as the bank employees knew the coins were valuable.

You think they were wrong in telling him?

    and

How fast did you go to the meat department?

Of course not. Hence why I told them there were ethics involved in telling him. They said he was in the store but I didn't really care who it was as I wouldn't have bought the coins for less than what their value was, anyway. Since I have a conscience and wouldn't pay less than what they were worth I could just buy the same type of coins from a coin store if I wanted to.

Stopped by one of my local banks to pick up a box of dimes, and they had apparently ordered me a box of halves as well. I got them home, and to my dismay I found that not only were 50-75% of the coins marked (with a thick black sharpie mark about 1/4-1/2" on the obverse near the edge) but all the marked coins were also painted silver on the rims.

I mean... really, why would you paint your marked halves silver, not only is it rude (marking coins is rude enough) but you'll probably end up slowing yourself down when you find your own marked halves again in circulation.

Thankfully, the box had 6x 40%ers that got into the mix or the person missed. I'm going to assume the person missed, because then I have even more reason to think that the moron that colored the rims silver is an idiot.

Is anyone going to do an August results thread? This has been my 2nd best month of the year so far but I've still got a few more boxes to open before I post my results.

    Start the thread yourself! :)

I get those boxes all the time. I love them, there is always silver in them... either the guy dumps 40%ers or lives in an area where lots of silver gets turned in. I think it's the latter, I've never seen a marked 40%er in those boxes.

Finally got around to taking some long-overdue pictures.
Seated Liberty dime from the 1880's. Still not quite sure what the date actually is.
