CraigsList has become a minefield of nutcases, hackers, outright lunatics who will threaten you, and other annoying problems. I still use it, and have 40 ads running for various collectibles and junque. But I have 8 years' experience dealing with all this. Suggest you practice a bit, and get the feel for the problems, before you commit to this coin lot. Also suggest you set up a free Gmail account to use for nothing but CraigsList, so you can discard it immediately in case of serious problems.

I've never had any problems selling, or buying, from craigslist.com.

 

That's the situation in Columbus, Ohio, one of CraigList's largest markets. My advice stands, take some precautions, get a disposable Gmail account, ignore but report the hackers, etc., etc. Anything else is asking for trouble.

Really? Have you been successful selling junk 90% at spot + 20%? (Just curious, not being sarcastic at all...)

Maybe it's just a market difference, but I think most of the craigslist buyers I encounter try to get 90% at 20% below spot. (Of course, I would never sell it at that price...)

And I've also never had any problems selling on Craigslist....although you do have to sort through the crazies, the lazies (the ones who don't even read your ad...) and the cheapos.

 

Or you could do what I do and hold the coins and ride the silver horse for a while.

Very successful. It's called "price is firm", and never had anyone try to lowball it.

They're usually the ones with the classic line, "I can get it much cheaper on eBay."

Which in turn brings my classic reply, "Then get it from eBay. You're operating under the impression that I'm desperate to sell, and you're ASSumption is incorrect."

Easiest way to sort through the spamidiots. Requiring responders to mention something only a local would know, in the subject line, and body of the email. Spamidiots can't do this.

 

About 50% of the CraigsList responders are automatic deletes, after reporting them to CL. Another 40% are stupid, crazy, or abusive. That leaves 10% bona-fide customers, most of whom buy something on their first trip.

Here's part of the 40%; today, some guy wants to trade me JUNK and plumbing fixtures for coins:

"Sent from c•Mobile for iPad are you interested in a trade. I have 8 of the interior handles I have two half motorcycle helmets only wore once. I have a new badger 5 disposal and big box of plumbing supplies with two new faucets included. I would trade some of theses things if interested..."

This is the price you pay for free advertising, and it's a minefield for amateurs. My "Delete" key's about worn out...

But I can deal with it, and all the sales are cash, face-to-face (no postage, no never received it), and many are likely to be future customers...
