Test photos to share. Up to this point I was using a compact canon with good short range micro (5 cm) and got good detail in my opinion. The problem was with the mirror like proof coins and the camera reflection in the shot, especially under natural light. It was recommended that the simplest way to overcome this is buying a good longer range macro lens for my SLR. This means in the order of 800 US or more. So, I did some reading on cheaper alternatives. Today I bought a relatively cheap compact Canon SX 150 IS for less than 200 US. This camera is known for it good longer distance macro focus capabilities. Here are my first two shots about 3 feet away from subject. What do you guys think?
Being 1m away seems odd, though you mentioned it in your first post. I've shot brilliant proof coinage for quite a while and have never shot that far away.
Some of the point at and shoots you have to get a long way from to use. I have seen similar in my classes, blew me away to be that far away to be in focus. Shot look pretty good for a point and shoot.
A good review on the macro function for this camera. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/SX150IS/SX150ISA.HTM
