I think , that it is Tunisia coins before 1900.

Diameter 21 mm , weigh 2.7 gram , look silver.

    Thank you in advanced.

    I'd say: 8 kharub, Tunisia.

    It is not :

    Tunisia pre-reform coinage
    4 kharub

    km 97 AH1256 year around 1840?

    20 mm 2.77 g .

This is from Krause cattalog, and there is no picture.

    Thank you.

Far from a expert on this, but don't rule out Algeria and Libya. Similar to some of the Budjus and Paras. I don't see a date on the coin. Seems very sharply struck and well centered compared to examples I tried to compare it to. Possible fake or pattern? The size and weight is about right for the 4 Kharub.

it could be Mahmud, but it is unlikely that it is abdulmajeed. IMG_3733%20CROP%20B.jpg

    From the cattlog:

    "SULTAN ABDUL MEJID
    With Muhammad Bey
    AH1272-1276/1856-1859AD"

I understand that the local ruler in tunisia was Muhammad , but the SULTAN OF ALL OTTOMAN EMPIRE WAS MEJID.

    Thank you.

I saw that in the catalog but as you said it does not have a picture to compare to.

I understand that the problem is that there is no
    picture in the catalog.

Do you think it is a fake, or very rare?

    Thank you.

I can't decide what the inspiration was, Tunisia, Algeria or Libya, but it's not real.

now that I have a picture to compare it to, I think your coin is fake.

Every one of the coins in the HA auction has a readable date. Yours is missing, or unreadable. This is why I am thinking it is a copy. Just my opinion, I could be totally wrong.

Reading old Arabic text on coins is difficult, but your coin and the one on e-bay have some junk characters that are extremely unlikely that they are Arabic texts, as sonlarson said, until you can get an expert opinion you will never be sure if it is fake or real.

It's definitely a modern replica, silver wash over base metal. I have come across several of them in various sizes.
