Team, Was wondering if IYO this 1879-S would be considered a Deep Mirror Proof Like coin? The fields are so reflective I can see myself but I can't take a picture of that but check it out anyway, LOL... Thanks for looking B
If you can hold a printed page up in front of the coin - 4" to 6" away - and read the print in the reflection on the coin - then it's DMPL. If you can read the print at 2" to 4" away it's PL.
There's a great article about DMPL standards in the current Coin World. What GD said is spot on. You must be able to read print 4 to 6 inches away. I read somehwere recently that PCGS now requires the distance to be 6 inches. Also, you have to be able to read the print throughout the entire coin on both sides, otherwise, you will get only a PL designation. It's tough to tell from your photo (and imo from any photo) whether or not your Morgan is DMPL. In any event, nice coin!
There are plenty of folks who say that. But there are plenty of coins slabbed by PCGS with the DMPL designation where you can only read the print from 2 inches away.
