Paper money graders, who have you been experienced with and results?

This is not a topic on who is a better grader just what you have been experinced with in grading your paper bills: PMG and PCSG.

PCGS as compared to PMG is similar to COKE -VS- PEPSI........both do a good job, rates are similar, both require yearly membership for direct submission, both make mistakes but have guarantees in place. All of the graded notes I own were purchased already in TPG holders. The vast majority of my notes are not graded.

 

what do you mean membership for direct submission?

 

If you want to directly submit notes for grading, (not use a dealer), you must pay a yearly membership fee. The only exception I know of is if you are a member of the ANA, you can direct submit to PMG.

You mentioned CGA and to use your soda analogy, is it like Dr. Pepper, equal tier but doesn't have a concept to coke and pepsi or is it like RC Cola, very good but no were near the respect/ following like Coke and Pepsi?

I'm a new guy here but have been collecting US Paper Money for a few years, I only have one graded note, it's a $ 10.00 FRN 2006-FW, cost was $ 12.00. It's new never circulated, It's nothing special so I have no idea why someone would spend money to have it graded ?.
It was graded by CGA as a 64.

The reason why I would have something graded was for higher priced bills to keep in the same condition for (forever) it wont be affect by human error. Plus in a general setting if a note is graded it generally is worth more because it is undisputed what the bill is woth just based on a grade.

Of course I am basing my reason off from sport card collecting but grading is grading

My personal preferance is PMG over PCGS.

PCGS is SLOOOOOWW & there customer service lacks IMO , I have had multiple issues with their turnaround times . It was so bad that I will NEVER use them again.

I would stay away for CGA. They are basically the ICG of paper grading services now IMO.

 

My understanding is since the new owners have come in CGA is now a top tier currency grader. I think the new owners mark with CGA* instead of CGA. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

 

I just checked the CGA holder I have and there's no date on it as to when it was graded and no * the $ 10.00 FRN that was in it is a 2003 so I guess it was graded by the old owners. I don't see anything wrong with the grade, it's a new note, no foldes, no dirt, nice centerig etc. just looks like it was taken out of a new pack of
$ 10.00's and for some reason sent out to be graded. Like I said, I paid $ 12.00 fot it and I'm sure it could not have been graded for $ 2.00 ?. For me it's not worth much of anything other that $ 10.00, but I needed a 2003 as a hole filler so bought it.

Looking at example on Ebay the STAR is after the grade not CGA. Here is an example with the STAR after the grade. Star is also on back. If it means something else please let me know.

The star after the grade indicates that the note was graded by CGA under new ownership.

Is CGA Under New ownership?
Yes. CGA and the Trademark CGA brand were sold on April 13th, 2009. Our Address is PO Box 1001 Westhampton Beach, NY 11978. The new company will retain the CGA name but display a * Star * on the back of every note certified by the new ownership.
