what on earth causes this kind of error? i just found this in a westward journey nickle lot i was going to sell.
it matches up exactly with a kennedy half reeding. would a counting machine have anything in it that could cut into a coin like that?
I have seen a quarter like that and it was caused by the machine the sealed the mint set together.. This one looks like its in a Littleton holder so who knows where it was at in its first life. My guess would be that the half was sitting on it and the machine went to seal the set together and perhaps spun the half on the nickel edge.
