Highest NGC guide goes is XF at $9400. Quite a trophy coin to be sure, but I think I'd buy the XF and spend the rest on other numismatic goodies.
I would say/ its a bit much. Künker had a fast st. =(TPG NGC MS65/66) It sold for 75K euros. A MS-63 should be 35-45K. Imagine paying 195K and having it sent via FEDEX add another 26K customs. I would much rather go for this AV 12 Dukaten/ Salzburg 1687 Triton Auction tomorrow. Its at 19K so far.....
It hammered in that auction in July at £80K+20%. As @panzerman noted, it auctioned high. Adding margin brings you into the range quoted in the OP - I've seen worse.. Anyone with that sort of money is going to do a bit of research, I don't imagine it will be flying off the shelf.
Even collectors like the famed "Tyrant" do their research before spending insane money. After all you could blow thru 10B easily on sixbid in one year/ way more if you bid 10X true estimates. There are tens of thousands of high multiple Dukaten/ alone from German States worth 100++++K. Munster AV 6 Dukaten are not that rare. The Munster 12 Dukaten 1638 would be worth that 194K price. This Sachsen 1610 AV 20 Dukaten would go for 1M+/ well worth it. FDC+BEAUTIFULL+RARE! Only to be RICH
I thought eBay sellers reserved that kind of pricing for "rare mint errors". I mean, those sellers deserve some reward for all their hard work scouring parking lots for new material.
Ugh, I deleted my exceptionally witty post. If anyone is serious about an Atlas coin I would pick up the phone and call them. It's listed on their website. The folks there have an excellent eye for nice coins. I've gotten several of my favorites from them. Not at bargain basement prices, but coins I really enjoyed owning. But go to their site (drool for awhile) then pick up the phone. Or go to NYINC if you are close. I suspect that coin is with them there. If not, they are in NYC anyway.
I guess considering what mint state US coins from the 1790's can be worth (like a $10 gold), this might have room to grow in price....
Atlas is known for having exceptional coins at exceptional prices. I have purchase a few things and been very happy with the coins. You do have to do your homework though.
Yeah/ I checked out his inventory. I noticed he out bid me on at least 5 coins! Also/ he does have nice material/ high quality/ tad overpriced. That AV 4 Dukaten Basel is to die for.
