In honor of the new movie "Snakes on a Plane", how about posting "Snakes on a Coin"! Mexico One Peso Actually, just about any Mexican coin will have a snake on the reverse
Yarm, that is a very nice depiction of a snake on an English 18th Century trader's token, which was used as a coin, due to a massive coin shortage. Aidan.
Aidan, It is a privately minted "Feuchtwanger" cent. You can read about it here. http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article2007.chtml
I always wanted one of those. Can I have yours, free of charge? If not, I guess I could start saving for one - I think you can even get a slabbed one in MS 60 or so for not TOO much money.
No:smile any more snakes?I have one if those ancient "medusa" snake coins from Parion,Greece too but Bonedigger's is way cooler.
And more I do not show the reverse as it is quite the same. The mints are dated between 1992 and 2004. All made of silver except bi-metal coin.
Besides on all modern russian coins (1, 5, 10 and 50 kopecks) u can see the horserider (St.-George) fighting with the snake Speaking about my collection the only exeption from my topic is collecting coins with owls.
Coopra, those are very nice snake coins.I like the one from Singapore, because Singapore's population is mainly ethnic Chinese,& because Singapore is also a British Commonwealth country. The North Korean 1/2 Won is a nice piece, but it isn't used in circulation, but sold to tourists to raise some hard currency to spend on its missiles & nukes. The bimetal animal series of coins actually started in 1991,not 1992,as there are some that were part of the issue of the Government Bank of the U.S.S.R.,which were only in use for a few months prior to the collapse of the U.S.S.R.They're interesting coins, however.
All information about commemorative coins of Russia you can find here www.cbr.ru It is the site of Central Bank of Russia and all information is available in English as well. Bi-metal series started before year 1992 but this was USSR. Russian Federation coin history starts from year 1992. Dragon it's a kind of snake, isn't it? In russian we call dragon the same name as a snake though dragon is possible also.
