Beyond anything else, the "O" in "OF" is wrong for 1856, so this alone says it's not.

Digit font is wrong, denticals are wrong, as mentioned the O in OF is wrong. Or should we say Wong.

i would say fake. the corrosion is just to make the coin look like it is actually older then it really is,... probably acid damage

The EBay seller with a feedback of 6 says there are no returns and no guarantees.
    Isn't that special
It is up to $110 already, it has also been reported.

Thanks all, figured something had to be wrong - if it were real & mine, it would be certified.

$6,000 coin on ebay with a seller with 6 feedbacks, seems legit

And if it was real and mine it wouldn't be certified. Just because something isn't certified doesn't mean there is something wrong with it. After all these coins didn't come from the mint slabbed and every slabbed coin you see was once raw. Just having been raw didn't mean they had a problem.

Look at the eye/head of the eagle, LOL.

True, but the higher the value, the more "crazy" it is not to certify it, since it would probably ensure ease of sale and returns far beyond the cost of certification.
