I have had a lot of luck finding world coins in rolls and machines even though my first world coin buys was not a good purchase (bought some world coins at a flea market and overpaid thinking they might be silver). Anything good here? The 1 Euro coin is Italy, the 2 drachma coin is 1988, and the 1 pinguin is 1971. They are taking a break from a brief soak in alcohol and need to be rinsed in distilled water.
Nothing worth any money. The first is Malaysia, 10 sen. You know the euro. Third is Greek 2 drachma, fourth is Irish 1 penny. In the second set of photos, the first one I've seen before but can't ID without seeing other side. Second is Canada, 1 cent, third is Swiss 1/2 franc. Fourth is Barbados, probably 1 cent. All common but if they interest you, then it's a good find.
Yeh, the second row the first one is Panama cent. It is 1990 something. The first four and the Swiss franc on the second row were free, found in a reject bin so you can't beat the price. The others were found in cent rolls. I know the Swiss Franc and 1 Euro are worth at least face in those countries which is about $1.75. I don't know how much the 2 drachma is since that is obsolete. The attached pic was posted by mistake. The first row is what I found today. I also found a Canadian King George the V penny, the oldest I have found yet. I save all the Canadian coppers as bullion.
Generally speaking modern world coins aren't worth much except to someone trying to complete a set. There are exceptions for a rare date or something special, but coins like the ones you found are of negligible collector value. It is still fun to find them in unexpected places though. I've found a Hong Kong coin in a reject bin, a Netherlands 10 cent on the ground near an apartment complex and a Norwegian coin on the streets of Chicago. All were memorable experiences.
Pardon me for commenting thus but the Euro, the Swiss Franc and even the Canadian $ are all worth more than a US $, I find the half franc coins from time to time. Nothing like finding 50+ cents worth of coin that is US dime sized.
Swiss 1/2, 1 and 2 Franc coins were made of Silver until 1967 and the last date a 5 Franc Silver was made is 1969 (with the exception of the 1968 which is not), besides the Silver version the Swiss Franc is always a good find. Other good finds are the Deutsche Mark, especially the old 5 Mark pieces are interesting in terms of design and Silver content (until 1974).
I think the Euro was a good find because they are worth $1.25 face value. The Canadian pennies I have are all worth their copper content which is close to 3 cents a piece since they weigh more than our pennies and are 98% copper. The 2 drachma is 99.9 percent copper so it is worth at least that. People do buy world coins as well, especially a mix of old and new like I have.
