I know I saw a thread recently about Littleton and their inflated prices, but I actually found an offer for face value. The part I don't like is that at the bottom of the ad it sounds like they send extra stuff with the intention of you looking at it and deciding if you want to keep it or send it back. I do not like that :(

Does anyone have any experience with this? I don't want to be required to pay shipping to send something back or have my credit card charged if I should forget or it get lost in the mail.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

That's how they suck them in. Face value or less, then, wham, they send stuff on approval. If you don't return it in time, you bought it.

Don't do it, I seen the same ad too. All what it is are presidental dollars what you can get from the bank for face too. And yes they will keep sending you coins to look at with outragous prices. It's basically to lure in customers and then make them want to buy something else.

That's what I figured :( Why can't I live in a huge city where banks get cool stuff?

Maybe I'll try to get a Visa gift card. Wonder if that'll work? Can't I just opt out of that extra crap?

Its mainly for people who are new to coin collecting or for relatives/friends who know a coin collector & wanna buy them something coin related.

    Avoid them!

I fell for that once when I first started collecting. After they started sending me coins for "approval", I called and told them to stop. They sent about 2 more batches with invoices and I replied by sending them an invoice for my time spent receiving, opening, reading and responding to their mail. After two invoices, I never heard form them again.
They never paid my invoices either....

I just know I'll never get an entire set of Presidential dollars if I wait around for banks in my area to get them.

Another way to get presidential dollars is to visit the local coin shop see if they have any or to try to find deals on ebay. Or you can even try the want section or trade section on this forum. Or you can even buy mint sets and open them up. Personally I never used littleton but thought I would mention some options.

You can opt out of it but in my area, if I wanted I could comprise a full set of pres dollars, in circulated/ uncirculated condition, they also make money buy buying them for face selling them for face plus they get you to buy a 10 dollar album

Our coin shop has them for $2.00... $2.25 if I want them in a holder.

I took the deal. Got the dollars for face value, the free gift of the 2010 cents and I kindly enclosed a letter stating that I didn't want to be a part of the coins on approval program. So far they didn't send me anything except for the dollars and cents.

    Arthur,

So you cut out the coupon and mailed it with your letter, received your coins and nothing more?! That's awesome! Did you pay by check? (Sorry if I'm being nosy) I wonder if I place an order by phone if they'll be as kind. I don't understand how they can just send you extra stuff and then expect you to pay for it or send it back. I think that's kind of rude to make that kind of a deal with someone without their approval (or signature!)

Yeah paid by check and just mailed it with the letter. This was a couple months ago so I'm not expecting the recieve any other coins. Years ago when I first got started I used to buy from Littleton all the time thinking they were such a good company but now I realize they are over priced. Also, years ago they hooked me with that on approval program. One day I just recieved a silver eagle in the mail. I thought it was mine to keep and then a few weeks later I got another letter telling me that my payment was due and to either pay them or return the coin. I never remembered signing up for this program but somehow they got me. I sent the coin back and canceled my subscription to the program.

Last summer I saw an ad for a $3 SLQ with Mike Kragle ( I think). I sent him the money, he sent me the coin with a few others in an envelope. I put then in a new envelope, and sent it right back to him and told him I didn't want any more coins. He has yet to send me another one.

Why couldn't you just open the envelope, and if you don't want the coins tape it back shut and write Return to Sender on it?
