Interesting write up on Collins CEO. I've become pretty familiar with him and others involved in the pivotal years of the Nationalist movement in Ireland through my research of Irish political tokens. Certainly an interesting historical figure but I won't comment further. Thanks for the link. Bruce
This coins is getting interesting with the silver and 2 coin set sold out already. I can see people selling them on ebay which is pretty sad. People are paying the price of the coin + 70 Euro :rollling: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Michael-Collins-5g-gold-coin-/271037940320?pt=UK_Coins_European_RL&hash=item3f1b1ec260 The set (98 euro....): http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Michael-Collins-Gold-and-Silver-Coinset-/271035825218?pt=UK_Coins_European_RL&hash=item3f1afe7c42 However it seems to be the Central bank undercharges based on their coins resell value... I may order from them soon (definitely the Collins Gold coin and 15 euro 2010) once I find the money Owen
Yes, according to the central bank, the €10 coin and the "combo" set are sold out now. Only the €20 gold coin can still be had directly from them. Christian
That Ireland gold coin must be tiny at 1/25oz? Some where I think the Finland Mint might make these sets?
Yes, it is small. But I am not sure about that weight; Ireland has issued various small gold coins in the past: 1/25 oz and 13.92 mm, 1.0 g and 13.92 mm, 0.5 g and 11.0 mm ... As far as I know, the Michael Collins gold coins is a half gram piece as well. And yes, Mint of Finland is what I have read too. The Irish central bank has a currency center in Dublin (Sandyford), but I think they mostly make circulation coins, plus paper money. Such special Irish collector coins have been produced in Austria, France, Germany or the Netherlands; that seems to vary from issue to issue ... Christian
Any real student of Irish history would appreciate the controversy over such an issue. Let us just say - there are many ambiguities about this character.
The Royal Dutch Mint makes the two Ireland 15 EURO silver coins that I have. The Animals of IrishCoinage series; 2010 €15 Silver Proof Horse Coin 2011 €15 Salmon Silver Proof Coin Not sure where this one is made?2005 Ireland 10 EUROSilver 10 Euros w/ Case Subject:Sir William Rowan Hamilton Birth 200th Anniversary
According to the catalog I have, the William Rowan Hamilton coin was minted by the Monnaie de Paris. Unfortunately from a collector's point of view maybe the Irish coins do not have mint marks. Christian
The euro coin catalog by Gerhard Schön. Which has become bigger (in terms of pages) than his catalog about 20c Austrian, German and Swiss coins. Darn collector issues. Christian
Christian, Thank you very much.:hail: The WilliamRowan Hamilton coin is the only other Irish silver bullion coin that I own. It is just the bullion coin and has nopaperwork. The Animals of Irish Coinage series say what Mint they come from. I think it wouldbe the greatest if Ireland minted its own Silver Bullion. Second best is to know who does mint thatIreland Silver Bullion Coin. My threeKrause (kp) (the World's best-selling coin books) do not say what mints theIrish coins are minted in. The Animals of Irish Coinage series are my favorite! Maybe it is me, but the Ireland 2006 10 Euro Silver Proof SamuelBeckett 1906-1989 Eire Harp KM# 45 coin with that creepy face on it isstrange? Christian, if youever get board LOL, please tell us what the other Ireland silver bullion coinsare minted by? .
