    Good evening gang,

I´m not doing so well finding information on this medal that came with a collection.

I have googled the artist and the contents but with out any luck.

Too bad about the gue on the obverse and scrathces but still a nice looking piece.

    Siggi,

What is the artist's name. I can't read it from the photo. I'll see if he is listed in my reference set.

Apparently, he was a Belgian sculptor and medallist, but my reference doesn't list any of his works beyond 1916 and no other personal information.

I neglected to ask if it has the Paris mintmark (cornucopia) on the edge. If it doesn't, then it was struck at a private mint and would be much harder to track down.

There's a chance it's not French, too. Could be Belgian.

Here's a start, the building on the back is the Castle at Eysden, in the Netherlands.

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

Here's a beginning: "...The Koninklijke Harmonie Sainte Cécile Eijsden, Netherlands, was founded in 1880 by René, “Count de Geloes” of Castle Eijsden.

In 1952 the association expanded with the addition of a Drum- and Bugle Corps (Trommel- en Klaroenkorps). In 1955 they had the honour of receiving an endorsement from the Dutch Royal family, and thereafter could proudly call themselves “Royal”."

The date "1880" here (and on the medal) is too much of a coincidence, so I think this is your man, plus "Castle Eijsden". This medal probably honors the 50th anniversary of the founding of the group.

"Comte" is French for Count (nobility). Comte de Geloes = Count de Geloes.
