I came up with a teriffic coin concept for mint sets. I think it would be a good idea for the US Mint to consider. Silver mint sets, yes you heard me right. Why not two mint sets for each year, one regular clad issue and a silver issue like the proof sets? Just an idea. But of course, I would prefer that happening after the 50 States Quarter program as it would be silly just to start this now halfway through the series. What do you guys think? David
The reason is simple. All precious metals are housed in San Francisco and West Point. Making the move to Denver and Philly, would be quite an undertaking.
SF and West Point could produce Unc. silver coins, though, like they do for the silver dollars. I would rather see silver mint sets than Presidential Dollars, but hey, that's me.
I don't know if this was what you were saying, but the Mint could produce S and W silver mint sets to complement the clad P and D mint sets.
I am so out of the loop on modern mint products, but don't they make Prestige sets that have silver in them?
I say let's get rid of presidential figures on the coins and go a new direction by putting back on symbols such as liberty heads and things like that.
Prestige Sets I am so out of the loop on modern mint products, but don't they make Prestige sets that have silver in them? I think the mint stopped producing Prestige Sets in 1998. Jim
Mint sets are supposed to be uncirculated specimens of coins that circulated that particular year. Since no silver coins actually circulate, striking some for mint sets would change the working defination of mint sets as we know it. Just my 2c...
