I came across this auction. It is SUPER fishy. The seller implies it is a gold coin, but has terrible photos, a low starting price, high shipping cost and won't accept returns. So if anyone feels lucky, give it a shot. http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-peso-stamped18k-/251132897416?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item3a78afe888
The item is said to be labeled 18K but no Mexico 50 peso gold was labeled in K. If so, a real one would be about 21.6 K, but the real 50 peso said 37.5 rams of Oro Puro ( 1.2 oz). The fuzzy photos are most likely on purpose. I guess the 7 bidders are hoping for an early Christmas. Good luck.
No way Jose!! I wouldn't touch that coin for a $10 win. Not worth the aggravation.:rollling: Maybe someone else has bigger ones. Go for it. :thumb:
Someone either got ripped off or the deal of a lifetime at $12. As I said, I thought it was very suspicious so I didn't bid. Desertgem makes good points too about the labeling.
IMO quite likely it's a miniature in 18k. While minis are often 9k and 10k, there are higher carat minis - I've seen them in up to 22k.
They sure worded it just right to make sure that you couldn't come back on them saying that it was advertised as gold and it's not. I love that he added in that he KNOWS that his grandfather paid $700 for it. If he paid that much, take it to a coin shop and get half of retail, $350. Oh well, at least it only cost someone $12.
The seller lives in the next city over from me. I should go over to his house and knock him out with a shillelagh for his shenanigans. Here's me with the shillelagh >:dead-horse:< there's the seller.
Thank you for the YouTube link. There should be a law that all Ebay scammers must stand in front of Judge Judy for similar humiliation & pay-back.
