Hey Cointalk, I know we have a few slab crackers here, so I have a question. When you crack a slab, do you send the label back to PCGS/NGC for them to take it off the population charts? And if you cracked, please feel free to post your cracks here. I'll start with mine. But in seriousness, I cracked my 1952 Lincoln in PF-64 RB to put into my whitman album. Now it is jus PF- SixtyGEORGEOUS And now I am wondering what to do with the label. I heard something about sending it in, but I have seen people tape it to the album it is in. What do I do?
I keep the labels but I don't paste them into my album. That is a little cheesy if you ask me. As far as the labels, I keep them. If I ever crackout a top pop, I will send it back to the TPG to ensure the integrity of the population reports.
The gradeing companys have got to love you guys and just how do you really know what grade coin you have if everytime you change companys the price goes up. The companys could care less because they know that even if you had it graded by someone else pretty soon they will get it anyway. Its laughable and i see it as money down the tubes. These coins are rideing an endless merry go round and every time they get re graded the price has to change so the seller can get his gradeing cost back. What a waste of money. I think those that collect graded coins are investers and not advarge coin collector. The money is ruinng what once was a great hobby and turned forms like this one into show n tell and look at what i am able to spend to get my bragging rights.
Oh dear, I'm sensing some hostility here. Frankly Woody, I don't crack 'em. I figure I've paid extra money for them because they're in the plastic wrapper so I just leave 'em be. There is one coin that I'm considering 'cracking' though. This one........... Danged thing don't belong in plastic in the first place. Might make a nice pocket piece though........
I crack them, then put the labels in a little brown envelop that goes in the album with the coins. No top pop stuff for my albums - mostly lower to middle grades.
I would probably store coins in them, i will think of something i never cracked a coin out and i am not planning to anytime soon but I think it would be really neat to have some cracked-out slabs in my collection. I'm just a kid and I would think that it would be really neat to add something like that to my collection
You realize the outer shell is damaged and in multiple pieces, right? All that remains is the insert, which isn't a good place to store coins without the plastic shells to keep the coins from falling out. Guy
