I think spot for Morgans is right around $23, not $38.

I could be mistaken, but I just checked coinflation.com a little while ago for peace dollars and I'm pretty sure it said $23.

Rev, this Ike looks awesome. What was NGCs grade?

Also, are those spots on the reverse on the slab or the coin? By the D in dollar and e pluribus.

1876 Shield Nickel. (PCGS PR65). I had been looking for a Proof Shield Nickel with some color for over a year when I finally stumbled on this one. The rainbow color is actually better live. I just shipped this off to PCGS for a TrueView photo today. The mintage of Proof Nickels for 1876 is estimated to be around 1,150. A scarcity that is not really reflected in the market prices.

According to numismatic author David Bowers, the obverse design of the Shield Nickel is one of the most patriotic motifs in American coinage. Based on the coat of arms from the Great Seal of the U.S., Longacre's Shield Nickel design focused on the shield as a defensive weapon, symbolizing strength and self-protection through unity. The upper part of the shield symbolizes Congress, while the 13 vertical stripes symbolize the states; consequently the entire shield symbolizes the strength of the federal government through the unity of the states. The crossed arrows, whose ends are visible near the bottom of the shield, symbolize nonaggression, but imply readiness against attack. The laurel branches, taken from Greek tradition, symbolize victory.

Just coming back from a 2 week vacation in USA, where I eventually found eight more state quarters (now 41 out of 56, all from personnal finds in circulation).
And while at a vending machine for some Coca Cola for the kids I had to get change from the change machine just besides where I put a $20, having no 5 or 10 in my purse. I got 20 $1 coins, 11 of them being different and brand new : Washington, Jefferson, Polk, Pierce, Buchanan, Johnson, Grant, Hayes, Garfield. Plus a WAMPANOAG TREATY 1621 and a Sacagawea.
Quite a pleasant find, although I'm not an avid US coins collector....

    Q

PS : Ha ! and of course, I've forgotten to mention having been into a bank in Augusta, Maine, just for asking whether they would have $2 bills and they eventually gave me five of them. Lucky me !

While Augusta is not much to look at, Maine is certainly awesome. Did you visit Portland I hope? Hope you had fun here. :welcome:
