Wow. Those are all BEAUTIFULL Walkers! Let me know if you decide to sell any of them.
I'm thinking those are all MS 64's or MS 65's

They are nice WL's. I would call the 1934 a 64. It has an average strike and a few marks. The 1936 is a really sharp coins with a very nice strike and few if any marks. I would call it a 66. The 1940-S is a bit weak in the higher features but is still a nice coin. I would call it a 62 or 63.

I look forward to hearing other opinions. I love WL halves and have been collecting them for many years but most of my coins are circulated. I have been picking up early dates in F-12 plus up to MS-60's for the later and common stuff. Your coins are much better than any of mine.

I just started a collection of Walkers recently and I have to say that you have some very nice ones there. It makes me want to upgrade what I have.

34 is kind of a weak or flush strike. I’m tempted to give it an AU rating. It looks like there a little shinning wear on the arm and breast. It’s an AU 58 or MS 61-62. The 36 is a good strike MS 64. The 40s is weakest strike or has wear. It’s hard to tell without glassing it. I’m guessing MS 60-61, mid body section is really flushed. I’m love collecting the walkers and considerate on getting a good strike, which means a full head with a hand. Your 36 comes the closest, and is a very attractive coin.

That 1940-S... You can't make out Liberty's left hand at all and there is ware on her helmet. The reverse of the coin does not jump out at me. The feathers aren't sharp on the left leg, you can't see them. If it was a pre 1938 coin, I'd be more inclined to give it a MS grade. But with those two spots worn/so weakly struck, IMHO it's an AU-55 tops.

    Your 1934... I'd give it a MS62/63.

Your 1936 is AT LEAST MS-64. I really like that coin. That one is top shelf. :)

    Will say:

63-64 on the 34, which is beautiful and I need one as nice as that one.
66 or better on the 36, becuse it has great detail and no hits that I could see.
AU 58 on the 40 because I see wear on the head and middle section, as well as wear on the left leg of the eagle.

Beautiful all of them, I wish they where mine.

    '34 - AU55 - coin has light wear

    '36 - MS65 - beautiful !

'40-S - MS62 - strike is just too weak for anything more IMO

I respect your opinion but ICG disagrees:

Link toHeritage auction of an ICG MS64 with a similar strike (and more knicked surfaces) compared to mine

I'm not saying it is a 64, I'm just saying I think it may be graded as a 64.

A little more research found a similar strike in a old ANACS 64 slab [Here

    Plus an NGC 64 HERE

and finally, Here is a PCGS 65 with a slightly better strike (although still abysmal), but with a very similar number of surface nicks.

There seems to be a lot of us Walking Liberty nuts on this board as of late. Are there any books/other resources out there besides this cool site?

I go by my trusty Whitman Red Book and this site for info. Thus the "No trace of wear, light blemishes" is a constant in my mind. However, I've only started collecting Walking Liberty Halves within the last four weeks. As these coins are 20th century coins, maybe my standards are a bit on the high side.

Regardless, there ain't nuthin' like a nice, fully struck, brilliant Walking Liberty Half. :) Okay, well, maybe a Saint-Gaudens ultra high relief. ;)

I know some of you are calling the 40-S a circulated coin but I don't think so. It is just a weak strike IMHO. Look at the fields. It would be easier to see in hand but it is as struck.

I guess I am the low grader on the 40, so...... I went to past auctions and see that there are some 40's in the 63 range that look alot like this one. My mistake. HOWEVER, its not a coin that in my opinion has what us old timers call Eye appeal. The first two coins in this thread would get another look or three if they were in the display. The third I would pass on because of the Strike I guess its called. The 36 is an awesome coin, Nice eye appeal for us old timers. The 34 is nice, few marks here and there but nice. The 40, it just dont do anything for me, although it is shiney! : ) I think we need a new grading system!

    AG-G = Whats dis?
    G-VG = Hmmmm
    F-VF = I can see it
    XF-AU = Purdy
    BU = Shiney and New.
