I posted this already last week after I won it on eBay.
It came in the mail yesterday and I took pics myself so I thought I'd share it again.

Now that I have looked at the pics side by side I like the sellers better. I think I had my white balance on the wrong setting.

My #2 on my want list that I can now scratch off. Featuring the "Rape of the Sabines"

A interesting event in roman history where roman soldiers carried off unmarried women to claim as their own.

The reverse refers to the rape of the Sabines. This moneyer traced his descent form the Sabines and perhaps from KingTatius himself. -- Roman Silver Coins edited by David R. Sear and Robert Loosley

    Mat,

I'm loving the rape of the Sabine coin. Romulus and Remus raised by a she wolf, fighting over a city, Romulus killing Remus, creating the city of Rome and rapeing the Sabine women to help populate the city.

Not an ancient guy buy knowing the history this would be a cool coin to have.

I picked this bad boy up for a little bit over spot after work ($38). 1881 S Morgan dollar, even with it being a common date it's still a great looking coin

Glad to see someone knows it's history. Its a cool coin during an interesting event.

The same moneyer *person who made the coin* also has Tarpeia betraying Rome to the Sabines in exchange for what she thought would be a reward of jewellery. She was instead crushed to death. Its a bit more of a common coin, but I dont have it yet.

I like to collect MS and PF/PR Roosevelts & MS Franklins .
The early Franklin proofs just cost to much, there cool but not for me .
I sold some coins on ebay to help pay for these new coins .
