Hi all, Things like this drive me NUTZ!!! I appear to have a doubled ear, but the coin is old and pretty well circulated. Did I get some PMD along the curvature of the ear? I found no listings for doubled ears in 1975. If I don't watch myself, I'll look at this for an hour going back-n-forth debating myself... this is legit, it can't be legit, probably PMD, but it looks legit, but it can't be... etc, etc, etc, then it's 2am and I wonder where my night went! I'm skeptical because this would seem VERY unlikely, but it looks fairly legit? What do you think? As always, thanks for entertaining my posts!!!
This is probably bad forum etiquette, but here it goes... bump! Any opinions out there? If I don't hear something, I'm going to assume this was caused by a gremlin with a dremel and will submit this to Ripley's Believe it or Not.
Well you may have to just rack it up as gremlin damage. It's about impossible to see what you have in the photos. I will go out on a limb and say it is either a small die gouge or maybe something bumped into it in this area.
I've found one like the coin you have, and after showing it to a few friends and other collectors, the only answer I got was No, it's not a double ear. Got my hopes up and then shot down....lol If I were to take a guess, maybe it's a form of machine doubling or strike doubling? I could be off, however, I'm almost certain it's not an error.
