Just got my new, cheapo USB microscope Friday from China (of course), and decided to pull it out today and play a little. I remembered that I had recently found a 1999-D Lincoln that had some raised areas on it and thought I would share some of my first pics and get your opinions: I believe that this is a die gouge, but thought it interesting that the damage continues into Lincoln's forehead, with a secondary line that runs from temple straight through his ear. Has anyone seen this variety before and what would you say is the cause of this? Thanks everyone!
Would bubbles under the copper account for the nearly straight diagonal line that runs from Lincoln's temple through his ear? The line is at the same angle as the "bubble" in the field. Just curious
Awesome die crack/gouge! I find it a bit ironic that the word Liberty(Which defined is "Freedom") is technically crossed out, and then this very famous person in slave history and liberation, Abraham Lincoln, Has a line going into his head. Combined, creating a very un-liberty-like coin...if that makes sense.... I like it!
Thanks! The unit was $28 or so with free shipping on feeBay. Takes a couple of weeks to get here from China, but I've been satisfied with it so far. I want to get a better stand for it but the one that comes with it is adequate.
