i picked these up this morning from my lcs. i wasnt interested in the 1841 until i flipped it over and saw the O mm lol it was labeled as a regular 1841 i got all 3 for a really reasonable price

 

Agreed. It amazes me what PCGS will let into a slab when it comes to toned ASE's.
Although, I suspect a lot of them are toned after being in the slabs, via gas injection.

 

I bought this one so I can give that reverse a conservation and salvage this AU beauty.
Of course, I will do a before and after in a new thread.

Neither was PCGS. But that doesn't make it true.

 

It may be enhanced NT. Natural toning just given some "Motivation"

 

I'll have to try that. I'm going to go yell at some of my coins that are just starting to tone in the albums. Call them lazy and stuff, see what happens.

 

Hey brg, thanks for your interest. Actually I got a great discount on this coin and was VERY HAPPY with my final price. Ultimately the only thing that is important to me is that I LOVE this one !!!!!!!!!! And the fact that three professional graders at PCGS blessed this as having Market Acceptible Color (and not Questionable Color) is good enough of a confirmation for me. I am kind of amazed that the PCGS graders didn't knock the grade down slightly due to any very slight hesitancy on their part (stamping this with a near PERFECT MS69 grade). A rare (PCGS) grade in the colorfully-toned ASE realm.

Whether or not this, or any colorfully toned coin, was cooked or if the toning happened "naturally" is always a matter of opinion and until someone comes up with some technology that can hide a microscopic camera in the recesses of a coin's surface and produce a 24/7 digital recording of a coin's entire history, these kinds of questions will always just be idle fodder for the coin forums and a way to pass the time. I suppose there are worse ways to pass time!

What can I say. I love this and feel I got a great price on it. If it brings me joy when I look at it, that's all that matters (to me).

BTW, I agree that little crown will be coming off the minute I get this stunner in hand. If it's not a CAC sticker, I dont want to see it.

Finally, I did post this on the PCGS forums and had people post their colorful ASE monsters ... it was a fun look. Winged, no disrespect at all meant. To each his own. I hope the coin lives up to your expectations in hand. You are correct that it's really all that matters. That "10-star crown sticker" definitely needs to come off though! The guy puts them on all of his coins. They crack me up.

Picked this up from eBay a few days ago. "S" mint Lincoln proof toners are always tough to find.

 

I have seen other ASE's toned with some of the same colors slabbed by PCGS and im inclined to believe it is natural...

 

ASE's due to it's 99.9% silver content doesn't take long to tone. Silver reacts to just about everything and does it fast.

Someone on the PCGS board said if you just sit it on a windowsill it will tone fast and wild. Same with older PCI slabs.

Dansco albums are another source of wildly toned ASE's.

These are made to house and display coins. Toning is one of the side effects. Been that way for years and years.

 

Yes, if you wrap it in a Taco Bell napkin, and store it in a box of matches for 6 months it will "naturally" tone also.
