Now for a completely different change of pace (don't worry, you are going to get Greek note spammed soon), I got this in two days ago, I am collecting 1776 notes from each of the 13 colonies, but they are REALLY hard to get on several of them including this from Massachusetts. This is the 4th known of this issue. Eight colonies down, five to go...
Nice peace mec.....ok i have kinda a loaded question tell me if its this simple or more complex and much added history behind it.....did the obsolete notes replace the colony notes? Then beginning with the 1865 National Currency notes did those basically replace the obsolete notes?
Here is a quick reference to the history of paper money I gave in The Newbie Institute: http://www.cointalk.com/groups/59-d162/ It talks about paper currency in the US from colonial up until the beginnings of small-size notes.
This one was kind of a slip of the bid now finger. Anyone care to throw out a guess to grade? My guess is it will come in at around XF-45, but I'm still learning.
Back to Greece! I have alot of these coming in as I am rampantly acquiring Greek notes, this came in Saturday, I love notes on the weekend! This is I think my favorite late issue Greek note, like the coins and the vignette of I believe Apollo, and the reverse with the ruins and the discus thrower if very Grecian. I just really like how this note design comes together. And it's in great shape to boot! My wife says that Apollo's dead eyes give her the creeps...
Another day, another pickup... Got this in late last week, been holding it as I don't like to throw out all the goodies at once... now this may look like any old beatup G-VG ace you can get on eBay for $50, but if you look closely you'll see it's the rarest of the Black Eagle issues, a FR 231. Got it for a very nice price that I couldn't refuse. My first Thompson sig...
Under $100... a bargain in my book (and I am notorious for being cheap err I mean a bargain buyer). Speelman White 236s go for $50-$60 in this condition on eBay all day long, and are (literally) 50 times as common.
I'm seeing stars again! I am actively getting these as fast as possible, here are two I got, one today and the other last weekend, there's 12 districts, several denominations and five series from 1934 to 34D, not counting 28's, so there's plenty of fish in the sea. Here's two minnows I drug on board... I also think these are undervalued and I hope they appreciate solidly in the future...
Excellent pickup IMO, especially for what you said you got it for. That signature combo has been one I have been seeking for a nice price, although I never see it!
Very rare indeed, I watch every eBay auction (I mean it. Every. Ebay. Auction.) and it is very rare to come up, there are only about 170 known of this sig combo. I actually know the seller from another currency board, but didn't realize it was his until after the sale. Very lucky to get it at this price, it could easily have gone for much more based on rarity. Sure, I'd love a VF of this note, but frankly almost any condition of this note is quite a get. Coming in the mail next week - a couple of the OTHER rare Black Eagle that also is very rare to appear... the 227. I got two of them! One will be sold though, flip for a modest profit to further my other sales and to let someone else enjoy having a rare issue. Hmmm... I think I will post the other two Greek notes I got as tomorrows new pickups of the day. Gotta keep everyone guessing.
I have a friend at a different forum (CU) and he saw my 1963 $1 G-B mule, serial G00000023B (65PPQ) and PM'd me letting me know he collects serial #23. We made arrangements to do a trade, and I ended up with a slightly higher 2-digit serial number, in a higher grade, and he ended up with the serial number he wanted. Win-Win situation. Heres my new addition.
Okay, the other two greek notes I got with my Apollo - I really dig the 100 note, it's a bit older than the Apollo and the 500, great color, neat vignette with the atom and the bust, and a nice reverse. Tomorrow - I post a HUMDINGAH!
Guess if Greece eventually leaves the Euro then these will become circulation examples again for anyone holding them? Either that or they de-monetize them and come out with a new system.
