I got this Star Note from an ATM today. It's a 2004, serial # EK00051715. I Checked on mycurrencycollection.com, it said that it's a run number 1, and that the total printed was 384,000. It also says that anything under 640,000 is considered rare. Would this be worth hanging on to? And how much do you think it would be worth?
Keeper in my book -- and I just don't save ALL stars anymore like I used to. Just the scarcer ones. This one is from 640k run or lower, so I would keep it.
It would be a keeper for me, too. On Ebay it would have extra value as a low number and a radar, but ONLY on Ebay.
Hahaha, I thought about pointing out those 2 details, but I didn't want to sound like one of those sellers lol. Still neat, but no extra (real) value added on for the features (except on eBay haha)
It's a low serial numbr and from a low run, but you would have to find someone who collects by runs to have a significant premium attached to it. Simply being a star note in that condition, I would only see the value as being a little over face, $10 max.
Nice note and I agree with others above, but that website mycurrencycollection.com is not available and says "its being improved". Are you promoting the site?
To get to the star note lookup on mycurrencycollection.com, I just go to Google and type in "star note lookup" and a link for that website pops up and it takes you directly to the star lookup and when you get there, you can just bookmark it. Actually why don't I just go ahead and provide you with the link: http://mycurrencycollection.com/reference/stars/lookup.php
I'm not promoting the site as anything but a resource. I am not connected to it in any way. The correct link is: http://www.uspapermoney.info/
I use uspapermoney.info for older bills, block collecting, and info, and mycurrencycollection.com to lookup modern star runs.
Modern stars, especially in the higher denoms, are real funny for selling. I've personally had a hard time selling 126K and 96K runs for a few bucks over face for $10's and $20's. But a similar low run $1's or $5's, I've sold for 5-10 times face.
I'm sure it's due to this economy, people just don't have the money to tie up for larger denominations.
Which would be why I don't ever hold on to the $50's and hundos star notes. Just no real need to tie up cash when they're a hard sell over face. The economy really does play a big part in this. And the same can be said for radars and binaries for those larger denom notes. Which sucks, because those are neat.
Both of those websites are excellent. The printable tables on mycurrencycollection.com are very easy to read and follow the runs. This is my first post here and I thought this thread suited me well as I really like modern stars. I would be interested in buying this note although its circulated and if anyone is looking to sell a quality low run star PM for an offer. I have observed these boards for a while and This should be the first post of many...
