Found this coin in the ground while working wondering what it is and what it's worth. Front says "Vice Pres Thurman" The back is pretty beat up but all i can make out is "President" and the last part of his name "land" possibly Grover Cleveland? I'm not sure.
Looks to be a token like the two headed washington coin i have. Both are holed like they were made to wear around ones neck. Still nice find and wait for others to reply as i am not sure thats what you have,
When I get home, I will see if I can find it in my political token reference. If it is there, I can provide an id number and other info.
Good thing your token was not from a later election, or it would not have been listed in my reference. My reference, " A Century of Campaign Buttons 1789-1889" by J Doyle Dewitt lists your token as id GC 1888-8. The obverse inscription should read PRESIDENT CLEVELAND. enclosing the bust of Cleveland facing right. The reverse inscription should read VICE PRES. THURMAN., enclosing the bust of Thurman facing right. The diameter should be 25 mm. This button was issued in both brass and white metal. The photo in my reference shows this token suspended below a short ribbon that has a pinback. At the top of the ribbon is a rectangular metal decoration with a beaded border and 4 stars each side of center. In the center of that rectangle is a small badge with what appears to be a bust of George Washington facing right. No valuation was given, but since the book was published in 1959, a stated value would likely hold little meaning anyway.
