I know I'm fairly new to paper money, but this is not anything special, right? http://www.littletoncoin.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product5|10001|24551|-1|47378|89314 $32.50 for a 1976 $2.00 FRN? I get these from the bank. At least I think I get these from the bank. Am I missing something?
Standard dealer hyperinflation. These can be found on eBay for about $5.00. I have yet to get an uncirculated 1976 $2 from the bank however. They are usually in terrible shape.
I find that I get quite a few 1976 bills that are if terrific shape. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are uncirculated, but they are consecutive and free of folds bends and tears. But most 1976'ers I find to contain wear to some degree.
Here's a 1963 $2 graded at 67EPQ I bought on ebay for $7. a couple of years ago. Shop around, you can do much better
Mr. Sundman does a lot for the ANA and is very knowledgeable. However Littleton's prices are questionable.
Ha! I've got 75 CRISP, BRAND NEW, UNCIRCULATED 1976 $2 bills I actually got at a bank in 1976. These are also numbered sequentially. I've been watching eBay and although there is some premium for sets with sequential serial numbers, I don't see these going for more than $5-$10 each. I took five of these to my local coin dealer and he's willing to pay me $4 each. (That's 100% mark-up, so I shouldn't complain!) And you can't get 1976 $2 bills from the bank as far as I know. I don't know where Littleton gets off trying to sell these at $32 each. If they were graded superb+, maybe. Heck, I'm going to check with Littleton and see if they'll buy mine at $16 each and they can try and sell them all day at a 100% mark-up from there!
I've got a single crisp 1976. Has one tiny fold on the top left otherwise I would say definitely UNC. 32 bucks is ridiculous though. But when isn't Littleton ridiculous?
Sorry, but steer clear of Littleton for all paper money needs. You can look at the catalog, get an idea of what you want, and then buy the notes from ebay, coin dealer, paper money shows, or Heritage for at least 25% less than what Littleton wants for them.
I've got an uncut sheet of consecutives. IDK, is Neff-Simon or Dallas FRB something special on these? I haven't looked at mine in a long time but that's how Littleton is pitching this one.
Stay far far away from littleton. They only stay afloat by sucking newbies into their site. They price their stuff 2-4 times higher than reality. A common date Franklin half dollar, in Good Condition, is $31.95. You can get common date Franklin half dollars for 12-15 dollars all day long. Same with morgan dollars, they charge over $60 a pop for them. Ridiculous I say.
Unfortunately I was a newbie once like everyone else and thought Littleton was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I've spent a couple hundred dollars with them and don't have much to show for it. Lesson learned. Don't buy from them.
