Am hoping this scan is good enough to show great detail the imperfections of this $50.I know it hard to give a good grade without acutally holding it but i have read the grading standards for both PCGS and PMG and am still unclear how this note would be considered an AU or CU or CHCU grade. The worst it has going for it is the light center fold which may or may not be considered "breaking the paper"??Also alittle crinkling or handling or the right side margin.Other then that no bent corners or issues of any kind.i got it from a payroll check and asked for $200 in $50's back and landed me this run of only 512k.Any help would be awesome thanks.

Really thats it? :( i was thinking minimum AU but am a novice at best at grading. The light center fold might keep it from AU?

Don't forget the issues on the top right corner and right edge.

I would say anytime you have a middle fold, it should exclude it as anything higher than AU. I don't know why I think that, maybe it's the stringent grading standards I put on myself, especially for paper.

This will help me with my other notes that appear AU without any center fold or issues thanks again guys. Also PMG is known as the more conservative grading service than PCGS correct?

Not sure really if you'll get much difference between PMG and PCGS. I will be curious to see the grading on this note if you send it in, let us know if you do...

There really isn't any difference in PMG and PCGS when it comes to grading your example. With the folds, it would barely reach XF and that would be the highest the note would grade unfortunately.

I would not grade this note. Anytime you have three folds whether large or small the highest it would go is XF. Now if we're talking about rare and scarce notes that would be different.

I do not believe the OP is asking if the note should be submitted to a third party grader. I think the OP is asking for member evaluation.

This $50 isnt worth sending in to get graded...they sell for $100-125 in high grade if you can find them but ill probadly end up bringing it with me to a show in trade or +cash to get a note id rather have instead of keeping it.I mainly wanted to see what you guys thought for a good reference on condition to use as a good base for some of my other notes that may be worth getting graded that are in better condition then this one.Now that i know this note definaetly would not grade AU i know its extremely hard to find a star in circulation that would grade AU to be worth getting graded in the first place...depending on rarity and how scarce of course. Thanks for all the help again everyone.

Oh, I know. Just saying the folds keep the note out of a certain grade. Still learning myself though, so sometimes I'm off.

The 2006 $50 Chicago Stars are out there......finding them in GEM is the key.
