“A resounding success,” is the best way to describe the convention of the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association held in Calgary, Alberta, July 19-22. The host club, the Calgary Numismatic Society, did not only demonstrate the legendary Western hospitality, it ran a well-oiled machine that ensured all delegates had a “yeehaw” of a time.

The first day, Thursday, July 19, consisted of seminars. The following six 50-minute presentations were offered: “Going in Circles – Looking at Medals from the Past 150 Years” by Barrie Renwick, “Circulating Gold Coins in Canada” by Brett Irick, “Calgary Numismatics” by Geraldine Chimmiri-Russel, “New Polymer Notes” by Ted Mieszkalski of the Bank of Canada, “Collecting Victorian Cent Varieties” by Rob Turner and “From Dictatorship to Principate: Roman Coinage – 40 B.C. to 14 A.D.” by Terence Cheesman.
