(This may be a little off-topic) but considering the information about the alloy used I thought it might be interesting never the less. ????????????????????????? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5251266.stm Archaeologists have discovered a precious golden dagger dated to about 3,000BC in a Thracian tomb in the centre of Bulgaria. It is the latest find from one of many tombs believed to have formed the cradle of Thracian civilisation. The dagger, made of an alloy of gold and platinum, was found near the village of Dubovo. ????????????????????????? Bone
Peter, please can you shift this section to the correct area,as this has nothing to do with numismatics? Aidan.
Wow Nice Dagger.. I Would I luv to find something like that !!! and they said it's (sharp enough to shave with)!! Cool, I found this very interesting... Wonder how they got it so sharp soooo long ago... and I wonder how they became so familiar with the technology of metal processing... ( Someone-Something had to teach them )...Right? Gold was the Big Thing Way back the too... Glad you shared this with us.. Thanks
This area has always yielded great riches. I have been keeping an eye on this site for the past 5 years or so-the main reason being I too want to become an archaeologist. I believe3-4 years ago the found a grave with a man inside. Well, what's so special...they found him buried with a sword. The sword, though heavily porous and frail was still intact. The archaeologists excavating concluded that this had to be a great ruler and/or king.
