I found this quarter out of a vending machine, there is a small "A" on the front of it, you may have to zoom in.

Welcome to CoinTalk! I can barely see an "A" so I think it may be a counterstamp.

That is the famous Author Fonzaralli quarter.

    Sarcasm from Kirkuleez.

A counter stamp is just when something was stamped into the coin. You could get a piece of steel in the shape of an A and hit it with a hammer so it leaves that mark in the coin.

Sorry, just having a little fun, I don't really see the A that you describe.

Hover over the picture, then look right above the end of the hair.

I saw what looked like a sideways "A" above Washington's braid.

I see it now. Is it raised from the surface or is it sunken into the coin?

I cant tell, but I think its sunken in.

    Isn't there also a "P" under "TRUST?"

I saw..........nothing. A counter stamp would be more obvious and prominent. Perhaps an anomaly resembling an 'A'? Or more likely, post mint damage resembling an 'A'.

I see it on the picture, but not on the coin. lol

Hey, this forum would get awfully boring if there aren't people around who like to have fun :)

It looks like it is a counterstamp to me. That A was not there when the coin was issued from the mint.

What about the "P" below the U and S in Trust, like the other person mentioned?

    I think Ken's right...not likely a counterstamp.
