Got a Msg tonight that I had been watching this BIN for a whole year... He made me an offier I couldn't say no to, so now one more filled hole (in several type sets lol) Ain't she purty.... added NGC pics below
Pix a bit dark to work with, but I think I see a 64 there. A few little peckmarks on Liberty's cheek and jawline to hold it back, but otherwise pristine. Shot at 65, maybe.
It's tough to judge the luster from the images. Nice coin. I'll guess 64 or 65 if the luster is there.
Looks like just a slight bit of wear on the obverse. I’m going to guess high AU. Maybe it’s just the pictures.
I concur, the area in the hair could be strike weakness, but I think I see friction in both of the obverse fields. I am hoping it is just the pictures, but my grade is AU58
Well here she is, and while it may actually be a weak strike rather then rub, I don't quite have it in hand to be sure... Seller offered it to me at list after it was relisted repeatedly for over a year at higher prices.... so i pulled the trigger For my 19th century circulated type set (I plan to get a 1900+ in MS for the 7070 and 20th cent type set in the not to distant future) Here's your "twist" @lordmarcovan
I’m surprised- it’s way nice for a 58. But in my defense, I was struggling when viewing those images on my phone. They’re not totally awful- and were good enough for some folks to spot the wear, apparently. But not optimal in terms of lighting. I certainly didn’t notice any rub there. That’s a sweet “super-slider”, for sure. Lotsa bang for the buck. I like AU58 and MS62 coins for that precise reason. Bang for the buck, often with good eye appeal.
Well it did stay on my watch list for over a year for a reason lol... For a 58 the eye appeal is fantastic but as beautiful as she looked in the pics I couldn't bring myself to pay MS prices for it and I doubt I could do better for the circulated set unless ngc wanted to add a star or + to this one which i think it does deserve
I agree with the grade. I saw slight rub in the high spots, especially the hair. The coin looks like a classic slider— it could have graded anywhere between MS 62, and AU 58. I was debating the same thing—weak strike vs. slight rub. Well, it is a very attractive coin, in my opinion.
Not sure I agree with the grade. The definition in the hair on this coin is impossible in a non MS coin of this series. When was this graded? If it is old then a regrade would bump it up. If it is new, they undergraded it. I see coins that grade MS 62 and you can see they circulated more than a little.
Gen 16 slab so fairly recently done 2015-17.. and Not sure I agree with the grade either but waiting until it's in hand before I make my final call lol...
