If I wanted a scale to weigh coins, would a scale form 0.1g to 500g be what I should be looking for ? What do you have and are you happy with the type you have ?

For weighing coins it is best to have a scale the weighs to within 0.01 grams - or one one hundredth of a gram. Usually a maximum of 50 grams is more than enough.

I went to sell two heavy gold rings and some gold chains last spring.
The dealer weighed them in pennyweights.
He said the only way he bought and sold gold was in pennyweight.
The scale he had could be switched from grams to pennyweights.

Just type in scales in something like Google or Yahoo. I did and got one that measures down to .001 grams for $29 plus P&H. I then found one at Walmart that measures down to .01 grams and bought that. Neither one has ever been used. I still use a chemical measuring balance beam scale from my chem days. It works enough for me.
