There is research that indicates the earth may be cooling, so I guess they'd need to make up their minds first. Maybe warming on the obverse and cooling on the reverse. Can't lose. Of course, whichever path of study gets you the most grant money......

One could slightly modify the Canadian two dollar coin... and reduce the amount of Arctic ice that the polar bear is standing on. It could be modified over time, as warming progresses.

Well, if a global warming commemorative was ever created by a mint, I solemnly promise right now I would never collect another coin issued from that mint ever again.

Problem with being an ancient collector is that I read and study history. I know we are coming out of a mini ice age a couple of hundred years ago so I know the earth SHOULD be warming up. I read about other periods of warming on the earth and the great boom in population, as well as the tremendous famine associated with cooling.

Also I read the sea levels in human history have also gone up and down, that greenland used to be green and not the iceberg it was in the 17th and 18th century. Just because we have only measured scientifically for the last 200 years the earth does not mean that is a complete baseline.

Now, if they made a deforestation commemorative, I would be the first order placed. Deforestation and the resulting desertification is the demonstrated, provable affect humans have had on the earth, and I truly wish everyone would talk about that trajedy and try to do something about it.

I think why its not is because its hard to make a buck on deforestation, and nearly every global warming proponent like Mr. Gore has major investments that will make them billionaires if the legislation they propose goes through. I always follow the money......

    Just my opinion.

That's funny. You could flip the coin to decide which one you believe in.

    I saw one...

I saw one, it was minted at the Easter Island Mint. The obverse depicted a baby fur seal getting eaten by a polor bear right next to an oil derik. The reverse depicted people in soup lines being served by the head of the EPA. Were we supposed to save the polor bears? Or the seals? [IMG]

Why not have one of those? Tag line? No one gets into heaven without one. Fundamentalist groups would have a field day with these......

[and I'm walkin' the 'thin' line :)]

Past tense please. ;) San Marino did that between 1972 and 2001. The "Nuclear Threat" series I find quite interesting, but it is not really about global warming. Now that Turkish collector coin sure is; in fact they issued four pieces on that occasion. https://sites.google.com/site/cointurk/Home/commemorative-coins/source-of-life-water Each piece says "Global Warming / A Threat to our World".

Indeed, and don't forget distributing them.
I guess the only option is they'll have to use wampum and send them out with riders on horseback to all the land.
Oh wait, I forgot, animal flatulence is also a huge contributor to greenhouse gasses............... now what do we do?

I believe the correct buzz words are now Global Climate Change. That way you can have Global Cooling on the reverse and Global Warming on the obverse. It may not be a pretty coin, but it will be the most often flipped.

There's lots of coins with "environment" themes. But as the OP specifically asked about about "global warming" coins ...

IF you read the 18th post that I made, I did mention a coin that commemorates the Kyoto protocol.

The idea of the Kyoto Protocol is to cut back the amount of greenhouse emission. Needless to say, US blew it off, claiming that it would damage its economy. You tell me if unpredictable weather doesn't damage an economy. :)

Or, you can put "Tax Scheme they win" on the obverse
and "Tax Scheme you lose" on the reverse.
