Well, now the darkness looks unnatural, but I would say that yes, while still a bit worse off than where you started you have a coin that is better-looking than the intermediate step. But that's just my personal opinion again. Fish
My scans don't look nothing like they do in person. Not sure why they look so much different when I download them to my computer. The coin don't have that wet look to it and just looking at it thru my magnifying glass it looks almost natural colored (though still a tad dark) and don't look all glossy almost wet looking like it appears from the scans. I had some Indian's I sold on ebay a while back and had never even noticed any corrosion on any of them and for some reason, when I blew up the scans of them, they were almost green. Guess my scanner emphasizes the green on coins for some reason?? I guess I should do like most everybody else and just show tiny scans of the obverse and reverse instead of trying to get out a good image of what the coin actually looks like.
After reading this thread, I think I'll avoid buying coins on Ebay, and maybe stick to slabs from reputable companies. Pins, coin cleaner, mineral oil, artificial darkener. This is scary.
That's what one person decided to do with a coin they had purchased. They could have just as easily done that to a coin they purchased at an auction, or a show, or a local store. The coin could have been raw, or slabbed. Do not read into this that all coins purchsed from eBay must subsequently be doctored to make them not look like ass. Fish
cloudsweeper....no grading company would have slabbed that coin in the state it was in and probably not in the state it's in now. It was a learning experience for me and although I don't think I did the best that I could, I learned a lot and I don't think the coin has gone down any in value from what I paid for it. Probably wasn't the best coin to go experimenting on with it being a rather rare and extremely old coin. I just cringed when I saw so much green just eating away at the detail of the coin and decided to give it a shot to see if I could make it look any better. )
