Picked this up for $40 at a local auction. I had never heard of ANI until I did a search on this board. Guess how they graded this Morgan? I'll let you know after everyone gets a chance to guess...

Took a long time to load, but since they used a scanning electron microscope I'd say MS-62.

My grade would be MS60, but I bet ANI was ms64. Based my opinion off the numerous bag marks - to me it looks like too many to grade higher than a 60. Just my opinion.

I'll say it was MS-63, just b/c someone already said MS-62

I'm not good at grading Morgans but I would say MS60 or 62
    ANI probably graded it MS67

    I would grade that coin a 62, I am guessing ANI said a 5.

I'm still learning and attempting to finetune my grading skills, but the coins looks like an high end MS-62 to me. It has a lot of bagmarks (likely too many for a 63), but appears to have good color and a strong strike for a New Orleans date.

Its all about luster, which is real hard to tell in photos. You have frost, brillant and subdued and knowing which coins come naturally with it is a must. Marks and strikes tend to dictate 64 and below. 65 should be almost perfect. I dont believe in the 64 or 66 grades. This combined with toning gives the total package or eye appeal, which also goes into the grading, with maybe a bit of a mark-up for market grading. Just my opinion.

MS 61 and no higher IMO! Maybe ANI don't take off for bag marks??? Coin does have a nice strike and full feathers on the bird, but sure has had some rough handling along the way. I seriously doubt any of the top 4 would ever grade that coin anything more than a 62 and I know of 2 that probably would grade it a 60. JMO!

another ANI graded coin to guess the grade!

Here's another ANI coin that I recently purchased. Anyone care to give a grade on what the holder says for this coin? Will reveal the scan of holder later on this evening.

How about (cleaned, if they use this term) AU-55?

I'd call it Au-58 harshly cleaned, but I'm willing to guess ANI called it a 63

If you don't already realize it you have been duped by this so called TPG by the alphabet name ANI. You have now wasted your good money buying these 2 overgraded coins that would never be worth half of what you paid. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but somebody has to let the truth be heard.

Guess the ANI grade 1881-O Morgan

Maybe they did a 64. I think 60/61 if not cleaned, toomuch chatter. Hard to tell from the pictures if it was cleaned.
