Since the limit is 5 coins, I can't respond within that parameter. There are 12 coins I need to finish my Registry Set, all equally wanted. Two or three are (maybe) affordable; the rest are waiting for me to win the lottery.
Despite this thread being over 5 years old, I think I’ll join in as well 5) 1872 Thrime 4) 1895-O Barber dime in XF 3) Twenty cent piece 2) XF Trade dollar 1) 1901-S Barber Quarter… only a dream I guess *sigh* C.J.
For US coins, I would say: 1. Ameri. cent 2. 1793 wreath 3. Nice Gobrecht 4. Early proof copper 5. Small eagle quarter I know, cheap list, right? If for ancients, it would be: 1. Antony/Cleopatra silver tet 2. Chi ro wolf and twins 3. Silver silphium Kerynaica 4. 44 mm Ptolemaic bronze 5. Vahran II family portrait Just 5 of maybe 150 coins I would be REALLY interested in if I came across them.

It's too easy to list uber rare, virtually unobtainable coins worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Here's my humble list of coins I wish I had. Heck a lot of you probably arlready have some or all of these. In no particular order 1. 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle 2. Any year Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle in lets say MS65 3. 1987 Constitution $5 gold proof 4. 1798 Type 2 Draped Bust dollar in high enough grade to see and appreciate the details (say VF30 - XF40) 5. A nice high grade, well struck, blast white Walking Liberty half (say a common non key date in MS66)
No not that rare I don't think. Just pricey for my budget as its almost a 1/4 ozt of gold. I just think its a very good looking coin that pays tribute to one of the greatest documents every written and wish I had one. Maybe some day. EDIT: Looks like the final mintage was just north of 650K so not that rare. [h=3]1987-W Uncirculated Constitution $5 Gold Final Mintage: 214,225 1987-W Proof Constitution $5 Gold Final Mintage: 651,659[/h]
Assuming money is no object... St Gauden's Double Eagle is so obvious, but it's on the list. Just next to that would be the Pan Pacific Octagonal $50 gold commem. That thing amazed me ever since seeing a picture of it. Also would love the Hawaii half dollar commem. (next to the Pan-Pacfic $50, this is my favorite of all classic commem. designs.) Er two more on the fantasy list? Maybe a chain cent in high condition. Let's throw in that $10 bimetallic Library of Congress commem. (Hey, not as iconic as these others but it's still something I aways though was neat!) Among things I don't have but think it's more realistic I can eventually get lol (and thus my priorities on my realistic wish list)... would like a high grade as possible Walking Liberty Half, high grade buffalo nickel, an Indian quarter or half eagle. Almost bought a Bay Bridge commem and may give in eventually. Would like some decent (XF at least) seated liberty dollars to finally finish my type set! That adds up to about five (or more) I think on both my fantasy wish list, and my realistic wish list.
Being realistic, 1893s Morgan VF or better, 1856 IHC, 1995w ASE, PF Morgan and 1793 Large Cent in VF or better. Christmas is coming...send this way please
