Are you going to buy 1 or more of this set? on the one hand, only 100,000 will be produced on the other hand there are 250,000 more of the pf sf eagle http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...10001&storeId=10001&productId=16762&langId=-1
This set has very little substance to it and is a pretty blatant "money grab" by the Mint, in my opinion. I'm completely not interested.
Lets not forget the BEP! They consistently hold back low serial number bills or "blocks" of serial numbers on bills for promotions just like this. As for me, I'll buy at least one. Maybe there'll be a error or variety if sime type?
Lol, yeah. 220th anniversary of the mint, that is a number routinely celebrated as an anniversary, huh?
They should have called this offering the Making Collectors Unhappy Coin & Currency Set instead of Making American History Coin & Currency Set. TC
I don't think I will buy one. I made my own "Making American History Coin and Currency Set". an early 1862 legal tender note and an early half dollar. the 1862 note is 150 years old. but my flowing hair is not quite 220 years old. Lol
Hope springs eternal! That or if silver hits $100/oz is the only way you’ll see a profit on this one.
This set is not for me. I have already got 3 of the 2012 ASE sets and plan on buying the 2012-W ASE UNC coin this week as well as the 5-oz Chaco Culture puck. That is enough silver for me. I don't think that they'll find much interest in this set from the average collector.
Just a thought, but if you ordered the 2 coin set, you may make more by not ordering this new set since it would keep the 2012 s proof mintage low and it may appreciate more. Instead of buying this set, buy more 2 coin sets on the secondary market.
I can't wait for the 220 & 1/2th Anniversary set which includes: Fractional Buffalo's AE Reverse Proofs from all available years. All Burnished AE's 1995 w's And a $1 bill with a picture of T.Geithner and B. Bernacke laughing All this dirt cheap Also the packaging will be of fine faux lacquered wood. Minted to Demand (of the Mint's Pocketbook) And as the Presidential coins used to be, available to be ordered at any time in great quantities. ENJOY COLLECTORS!!!!
I'll get one too. I'm a sucker for the C&C sets. I don't have all of them but I like it with an ASE in it and with the S mintmark. Who knows, as hated as these are we might have the only two in existence.
Got my email from the mint notifying that this was available. And reiterating the fact that there are now 50,000 to 100,000 more S proof ASE's for 2012. Thanks again for that punch in the gut.
Sounds like Bob Chambers, don't it? On a side note, I don't see in the product offering where it says that eagle's coming from San Fran. Wouldn't it be hilarious if they slipped one in with a Denver mint mark? Man you'd see some gnashing of teeth in these parts....... [edit] Never mind. I see what they did......honoring the heritage of the San Fran mint. Still would be nice if they threw us a curve.......
The email I received today says it's an S mint ASE. Needless to say, I won't be ordering any of these sets.
The site says: "This 2012 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin not only honors the artistry and design of our Nation’s coins, but also honors the heritage of coin production at the United States Mint at San Francisco." I guess it does not list "S" anywhere.... funny Only the email says S mint mark
Gawd! All the whining and complaining! Sheesh! Did folks do this much whining and complaining when the Millenium Coin and Currency Set was released? It had, after all, a Y2K Silver Eagle in it. What about the Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set? It had, after all, a Lincoln Commemorative in it which has surprisingly held its after market value? For the Set that is. And lets not forget the Franklin Coin and Chronicles Set. Let's see, the Lewis and Clark Coinage and Currency Set. If you don't like the product offerings just don't buy either one. They'll end up with low totals, be virtually unavailable and then folks can whine and complain because they're so doggonned high in the after market and they wished they'd have ordered one!
