I am suspicious of this and some others by this seller. This sure looks AT to me:http://www.ebay.com/itm/WOW-1973-Un..._Individual&hash=item41691fc725#ht_705wt_1413
Admittedly, not all of them appear to be obvious AT. I wouldn't rule out that someone possibly just didn't know what they were buying. I think maybe that's what Paul is eluding to. Or no?
No,not all of them are shake and bake. Some have the natural Ike golden toning. But I'd say that quite a few have had more than a wee bit of assistance getting to that color. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-S-Unci...Individual&hash=item41691fd1ad#ht_1259wt_1413 This one has had chemical assistance for sure.
I was only referring to the one in the link. Your old avatar was much better than that Washington Quarter.
FYI, they are going to replay the game on NBCSports at 7PM in case you missed it. The Beautiful Game--US vs Canada Semifinal Women's Soccer London 2012
When it comes to toning there is one thing that you must, stress must, always keep in the back of your mind - whatever man can do, nature has already done. And whatever nature has done, man can do. So yeah, we can look at a coin say - I think that coin is AT, I know that coin is AT, I'm sure that coin is AT, that coin just has to be AT - or any other term of qualification you wish to use. But when it comes right down to it, the only one that is even remotely accurate is - I think that coin is AT. Nuttin wrong with that. You can think it is all you like. You can even say there is a very, very, strong probability it is AT. Just don't forget - maybe it isn't. Because I promise you Mother Nature has done some very, very, weird things when it comes to toning coins
I see AT as well, everything about it is wrong. Doug's point is valid though. Its sad that a great many really weird toned coins will nowadays forever be thought of as AT. Especially one sided, (from old books), I saw a great many crazy, weird toned coins from old estates over the years. Coins that, today, I would along with everyone else condemn as AT if I had not seen them before AT was an issue come out of old albums. In a way the AT folks are stealing our numismatic heritage by doing what they have done. It reminded me of a story I read about 1896 silver dollars that were counterfeited by the mafia. These coins, if found today, will be assumed to be Chinese replicas produced recently. In the same manner as above, the chinese have stolen this part of US numismatic history by flooding our country with their fakes. Chris
Does placing a coin in chlorine AT it? I brought a Zincoln into the pool and now its purple, blue, and green.
I think the standard reads: - if pool is filled by rainwater, then NT - if pool is filled by hose, then AT
