I just discovered it on a small cent. If there is one, it seems very faint. Any thoughts on this? The coin is in excellent condition.
There are quite a few on coppercoins, does it look like any of those? Click on die variety search and go from there. http://www.coppercoins.com/
Thanks for the link. Following picture looks a bit similar. $30 at most. That answers my question if its worth "something".
It is cool, but there is not much of a premium, unless you find a specific collector. IE, I had a small 'cud' collection and one bidder was winning all my auctions, i contacted him and he bought all my cuds at more than I was starting them for. He was trying to make a set of 1941-present cents, all with cuds.
Interesting how all auctions on ebay resemble that type: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1943-D-STEEL-WHEAT-PENNY-DOUBLE-DIE-OBVERSE-BOLD-D-ERROR-A137-/280823569837?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D1143088498608485004%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D2%26#ht_680wt_1037 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1943-D-Mint-Error-Strongly-Doubled-Mint-Mark-Great-steel-cent-LOOK-/260936076313?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3cc1008c19#ht_500wt_1054 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-COIN-LOT-...85004&pid=100033&prg=1011&rk=1&#ht_738wt_1037
Something you have to keep in mind with the 43-D is that there is a die deterioration example too. The OP's coin fits this bill more so than the actual Doubled Die variety.
