Got this coin as a gift from a friend because i helped him out with some hard to find vintage motorcycle parts. I dont have any experience with buffalo nickles so I was just wondering what all you guys thought of it???? Good coin or no, would you want it for your collection????
I took the photos at a slight angle in natural light coming through the window, in hand the coin looks to be natural......
The coloring is a little weird, maybe it's the lighting. Aside from that, I would have to say it's right there at XF45-AU50, still plenty of luster in the protected areas. The horn is a little flat but there is still some seperation to know it's not a lower grade.
Looks like the Indian & Buffalo were in a knife fight. A lot of scratches & gashes. Then maybe rubbed them down with olive oil to try to heal them. A nice high grade coin, but I see these as problems.
I would maybe put it in the low AU details range. Too me it looks like pin scratches on the obverse across the cheek into the feathers - just too lone and straight for anything else. And I am also assuming the colors in the picture are off. As mentioned this coin does still have some meat on its bones.
Is the coin toned? its got some wild colors in the picture. I would agree with the grade and say its a low AU.
Yes its toned, quite attractively too.... the pics just dont capture it very well, it is more of a rainbow color.
