I was just wondering what U.S. coins everyone enjoys trying to build a complete set of. I notice alot of people working on indian head cent sets. I'd like to work on morgans, but completing that one will take me years and alot of money. Right now I'm working on a WL half set, which I think are beautifull coins, and also relatively affordable. How bout y'all?
My favorite has always been Morgan Dollars and I hope to eventually put a complete set together (someday). Right now, I'm working on a type set in a Dansco 7070 including the gold page-so I guess that is my current project.
There are many desirible issues morgans etc. my personal favorites are barber quarters and v nickles redhorse
My favorite are early proof sets. I hope to have 1964-1950 together before 2010. I have all but 1950-1953 as of today. My real dream is to have them all 1936-1942 as well. After all proof sets are made for collectors---hey thats me!!!!
I really have no ONE favorite--I like them all. What I try to do is buy the coins and do a set in the best grades I can afford....I'm not out to have the best collection around....I'm not out to have one that people want to buy becaues I was the owner...I want to buy coins that I like and maybe one day when I sell other people will like them also. Right now I'm working on too many sets that my hands are full... IHC AU/BU Washington Quarters Proof 66 Franklin Halves Buff Nickels and just pick up other coins that I like. I'm also upgrading some of my keys so that is also taking time and money out where I could put them in these sets. Along with my research I do on coins I'm busy 24/7---now if I could just make some money so I could do it as a job! Speedy
I'm working on Morgan $'s. Unfortunately right now I'm at the place where it is mainly key and semi-key dates that are all that are left. It will just have to take a while. After this, Mercury dimes will seem much easier.
I'm not really into building sets. I think the only completed sets I have are the Silver American Eagle and the silver Roosevelt dimes from 1946 to 1964 [short set]. I really like circulated silver dollars of any kind, and it is pretty disappointing to me that serious collectors seem to consider circulated coins of any sort "uncollectible" unless they are key dates.
Silver Eagles - they look great! Proof Sets - just like them Franklin Halves - affordable; I like Ben Franklin; despite their popularity and apparent availablity, some dates are a challenge to find.
I will always love my Morgans. I just finished and sold my Prooflike grading set MS-64PL-MS-68PL in 1881-S. Made a very nice profit too. Now im working on proof morgans.
I agree. If anyone has any of these "uncollectible" coins that they don't want, please send them to me.
I'm FINISHED with Roosevelt Dimes, Jefferson Nickels, and State Quarters to date, and I'm almost finished with Lincoln cents (need 20), Kennedy halves (need 5), Eisenhower Dollars (need 3), SBA Dollars (need 4), and Sacagawea Dollars (need 5) to date. I also have started on, but am nowhere near completing Buffalo Nickels, Mercury Dimes, and Washington quarters. Soon I plan to start on Franklin halves, WL Halves, and Peace dollars. Then I'll start on V-Nickels, Barber dimes, earlier halves and quarters, and possibly Morgans down the road a bit. My collection is focused on US coins from 1900-date. When I have that mostly done, I'll work backwards. AJM
