you can see part of the word ONE and part fo CENT. the word UNUM and obviously the lincoln memorial. is it worth anything?
I'll post a similar picture of a silver kennedy dollar I found a while back, Where I thought it was a die clash but it turned out to be a very good stamp. I'll post it later tonight, I'm at work right now. I agree with the others, its a smash/stamping/press.
The more experienced " creators" use a piece of leather beneath which prevents most of the (further) damge from he blow to the other side. PMD.
100% PMD Clashes do NOT show any signs on the design high points, it would be impossible since those areas are recessed into the die.
There are two things you have to remember about a true clash. 1) The positioning of the clash would be the same as the orientation of the dies (coin turn). 2) The lettering or other devices would not be backwards. Chris
could you please tell us how you believe this to be true? In my opinion you have this backwards. And yes I agree with everyone else that the op's coin is a squeeze job , this is evidenced by the damage left from the other coins.
No it is not impossible for this to happen. It all depends on whether the dies are warped or not and what angle the dies come together at. Actually coin dies are somewhat cone shaped with the center of the dies being the highest points. I own two matching clashed die cent coins with the design of the memorial building going across Lincoln's outline. I would agree with you that it may be impossible for the memorial building to get clashed up inside of lincoln's image like the op's coin is because the dies would have to have been severly rotated . All of the die clashes I have seen have the building going across lincoln's image.
