I bought this mint set at a flea market for $1 a while ago, And i havnt been able to determine exactly what country it is from. there are 8 coins total, all writing is in cyrillic except for date and denomination. dates of coins range from 1951, 1954, 1959 and 1960. all coins have a standing lion with a star over it, surrounded by wheat. Anyone hve an idea of what country and a value?
Despite the packaging, it's definitely not a mint set. National mints do not sell sets composed of coins from multiple years
I was wondering about the multiple years of coins, and if it was something else besides a mnt set. There is a 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, and a bigger coin with a 1 i am assuming is a 1 lev? All are uncirculated and sealed in the plastic.
Give ebay a shot and see how they normally sell for. I wouldn't hold my breath - not expecting the price to be enough for you to retire.
Unfortunately, these are not worth much. They can usually be found in dealers' "junk world" bins, and you can sometimes buy them by the pound!
Thailand is one example, some countries do not produce every coin denomination every year, and some times you will see mixed date sets for those countries, this is rare but it does happen.
Israel is another example, official set from 2010 got something like 5 different years. The reason, as it has been said, is that not every year coins are produced, but every year they want to sell sets to collectors, for rather unreasonable prices BTW. This Bulgaria set looks a bit weird, pretty sure its not official. I`d say it will sell for at least $15 on eBay, maybe even $25.
15$ is way too much, I think it would be closer to 0.99 to 5$, if it is not official then no body will be looking for it, which means if any one is intrested he / she will pay minimum amount to have it as a novelty item.
The set does not look like an official mint issue indeed. Maybe it's just due to the photo, but it sure looks as if four coins are in "their own" holders while the two on the right hold two coins each. A mint is quite unlikely to do that ... Christian
